Annual Fund Nears Goal, Dollars Still Rolling In
IMBA's Annual Fund is a mere 5% short of its goal to kick off our work in 2007. Please , Dan, check the bottom of your hydration pack for coins or take a small collection at the trailhead to make your Annual Fund donation. We're very close to being able to focus on these simple, yet ambitious, goals:

  • Unite the mountain bike movement and strengthen our collective voice
  • Provide truly world-class riding experiences and model trail systems
  • Protect natural lands while allowing mountain biking

You can securely donate online: Even a handful of small donations can help close the final $2,000 gap.

Leadership Council Forms to Aid Statewide Mountain Bike Movement
In a new initiative to increase mountain biking opportunities, IMBA California has introduced a statewide program: the Leadership Council. The Council provides serves as the connectivity and communication link for local volunteers and stakeholders across thestate. The Leadership Council is not a governing body - it seeks to bring mountain bikers together to achieve common goals. Key objectives include:

  • Guide and support IMBA's mission in California while operating consistently with IMBA core values.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of IMBA-CA's annual advocacy agenda and policy platform.
  • Contribute to IMBA-CA financial capacity thru dues, donations and cultivation of corporate members and sponsors.
  • Recruit and develop volunteer leadership to build organizational capacity.
  • Contact IMBA CA Policy Advisor Tom Ward ( if you are interested in joing the Leadership Council

The rankings, featured in the university and alumni magazines of UCLA and UC Berkeley, place the invention of the mountain bike as one of 25 "transformative" and "brilliant" California ideas "that were either created or took off in the past 25 years." Other citations in this exclusive compilation include the discovery of the structure of the early universe, pioneering stem cell research, the invention of the iPod, the development of the Internet search engine, and the development of computer-generated imagery.

Join Us in Washington for the National Bike Summit, March 13-16
IMBA is proud to be a leading sponsor of the 2007 League of American Bicyclists' National Bike Summit (March 13-16) in Washington, D.C. The Summit, held annually, is the premier bicycle advocacy event in our nation's capital and truly a highlight for advocates. You'll meet hundreds of passionate cyclists and walk the halls of Congress, a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many. IMBA's increased involvement will unite mountain and road cyclists to lobby as a unified front to preserve trails, trail funding and more. IMBA Summit participants will travel with the rest of their state delegations to congressional meetings and represent mountain bike issues.

Update on Forest Service Listening Sessions
Hundreds of mountain bikers - along with hikers, equestrians and other trail user groups - attended recent Forest Service listening sessions across the state. Common themes that emerged included calls for new trail construction, more opportunities for technical riding, better integration of volunteer work crews to help maintain trails, and the need for various user groups to work together on access issues. The input from the sessions will be put together in a guideline document to assist Forest Service managers in providing sustainable and responsible mountain biking. The document will be completed by the end of Jan. 2007.
