Register for the National Bike Summit
IMBA is proud to be a leading sponsor of the National Bike Summit, hosted by the League of American Bicyclists. We hope you'll join us March 4-6 in Washington, D.C. as we gather with hundreds of passionate cyclists to walk the halls of Congress and show the power of our numbers. To help you attend this very important event, Bikes Belong and the League have extended a generous offer to IMBA supporters for a significantly discounted conference rate. The annual Summit is the premier bicycle advocacy event in our nation's capital and is truly a highlight for advocates. Mountain and road cyclists come together to lobby as a unified front to preserve trails and trail funding, and advocate for other bicycling issues. We will make everything easy for you with talking points, handouts and pre-scheduled meetings -- please join us!

Action Alert: CA State Parks Budget Reductions Threaten Bike Access
Governor Schwarzenegger's plan to combat California's projected budget crisis includes across-the-board program reductions, including severe cuts to the state parks department. Please file your comments today! The new proposal could close 48 parks, including popular destinations like Henry Coe and Topanga Canyon. California parks have been victim to several significant budget reductions in past years and the new plan would seriously imperil the agency's ability to serve Californians, including more than five million mountain bikers.

Four New Rides Added to Epics® Program
IMBA's heralded collection of Epics recently grew with four great additions. The 2008 IMBA Epics blend purpose-built (Ray's Indoor Bike Park, FATS) facilities with trails that pre-date mountain bikes (Monarch Crest, Paul's 100). Both styles yield incredible Epics: specialized riding experiences offer challenge and thrills perfectly attuned for biking while older trails take us on amazing journeys that have long intrigued travelers of all sorts. Stay tuned to IMBA's website for updates about Epic celebrations throughout the year.

Got Access Problems? New Resources in Trail Science Database Offer Support
New and updated scientific papers have been added to the Science and Research section of IMBA's online resources. Recent research on the impacts of mountain biking bodes well for cyclists. You'll find well-documented, widely accepted studies that suggest the impacts of mountain biking are similar to hiking's impacts in papers like Environmental Impacts of Mountain Biking: Science Review and Best Practices. Dozens of additional resources available in this online collection.

Czech Mountain Bike Association Gains Corporate Support From Merida reports that the distributor of Merida bicycles in the Czech Republic pledged to sponsor the fledgling Czech Mountain Bike Association. Merida's financial support will help boost the organization's MTB advocacy activities. Long in the making, the Czech Mountain Bike Association, CeMBA was founded in May 2007 to represent mountain bikers' interests before national agencies and authorities. It is the first such organization within the former European socialist bloc.
