Follow IMBA at the National Bike Summit on Twitter
Follow mountain bike advocates -- including IMBA's executive director and government affairs director -- in real time as they update their progress at the 2009 League of American Bicyclists' National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C. Their text updates will be distributed through the social networking tool Twitter and can be viewed on your computer or mobile messaging device. Twitterers can utilize the emerging hashtag convention by including #NBS09 at the end of messages (known as "tweets"), allowing for easy tracking of all National Bike Summit updates.

Trail Care Crew on the Move in California
The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crews are on the move, including upcoming visits in San Diego, Santa Barbara and other California locations. Visit the TCC homepage to see their schedule, and to get streaming updates from their Twitter accounts. Don't forget that Subaru's support for IMBA extends to the VIP purchase program, which can help you save up to $3000 on a new Subaru.

Specialized Riders Club Offering Great Deal on Wilderness First Aid Certification
Join the innovative Specialized Riders Club program and you can get a great deal on a 16-hour training program. The Wilderness First Aid course is designed to prepare you to confidently and effectively respond to injuries and illness that can occur out on the trails. The training will focus on staying calm, making good decisions, and relevant hands-on practice. Upon successful completion, each participant will receive a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Certification valid for 3 years.

Congress Fires-Up the FLAME Act
Both the House and Senate have taken decisive, bi-partisan action to get a handle on the cost of suppressing catastrophic wildfires by introducing the FLAME Act (Federal Land Assistance, Management and Enhancement Act), H.R. 1404. IMBA applauds this critical step in getting a handle on catastrophic wildfires. Under the current system, about half of the U.S. Forest Service's annual budget is already set aside for dealing with forest fires. The FLAME Act helps control on how we pay for catastrophic fires by setting up a special account in the U.S. Treasury to deal with the really big, really expensive wildfires. In addition to having the special account, the FLAME Act also would require the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture (which oversees the Forest Service) to develop a comprehensive wildland fire management strategy to improve fire prevention on our public lands.

SRAM Challenge Grant Makes it Easy to Raise $10K for Trails
Here's how to raise $10,000 for trails faster than you ever thought possible: 1) Put together a team of 10 riders; 2) Pick any 2009 cycling event and register with Team IMBA; 3) Raise just $500 per rider with the Team IMBA online fundraising tools; 4) You automatically qualify for a SRAM challenge grant. Before you know it you'll have raised $7,500 for your club's next trail project and $2,500 for IMBA's Trailbuilding Fund. Plus, everyone who rides will be eligible to win a Marathon Carbon Pro bike from lead Team IMBA sponsor GT Bicycles. Questions? Contact Wendy Kerr for more information.
