Campaign for America's Bicycle Retailers Begins with PR Support
On May 15, the NBDA introduced a nationwide promotional campaign called "The Bike Shop Advantage The Campaign for America's Bicycle Retailers," designed to assist retailers in promoting their benefits to the media and consumers.
The first phase of the campaign, the Bike Shop Advantage PR Program, is now available online. It is a series of guides, templates and proven methods retailers can use to generate media exposure to influence consumers to purchase at a local bike shop rather than mass merchants or discount department stores.
These public relations resources and tools, available at www.bikeshopadvantage.com, include:
- Retailer Guide to Free Media Exposure a PR "how-to" manual with simple steps any retailer can follow to generate free publicity in local media.
- Media Messaging Guide a talking point guide listing major themes, advantages, and benefits for use during news media interviews with journalists.
- Press Release Templates proven press release documents with an easy "fill-in-the-blanks" approach for immediate retailer use.
"These free resources can empower retailers to gain free local media attention within their markets while generating consumer awareness of the benefits of shopping within a specialty bicycle retail store," states Michael Baker, NBDA's Marketing and Communications Director. "As the campaign grows legs, the NBDA will continue to provide more resources to the industry in support of consumer promotion."
"If an NBDA retailer follows this simple step-by-step guide, they will soon be viewed as 'the' news source for any and all cycling related topics in their market place," says Dan Thornton, NBDA Second Vice President and owner of Free Flite Bikes in Marietta, GA.
These resources were developed in cooperation with marketing and public relations firm The MediaLink Group, which has used similar content to generate PR for specialty bicycle retailers and regional bicycle retailer association chapters nationwide.
This PR content along with other campaign support materials such as banners, buttons and logos, are available for download by all specialty bicycle retailers and suppliers on the NBDA website free of charge. The NBDA has also setup a dedicated URL for the campaign at www.bikeshopadvantage.com.
Other NBDA marketing partners partners such as SmartEtailing.com have loaded their online content library with pre-developed Web pages, allowing retailers using the SE Web platform to quickly add Bike Shop Advantage messaging to their individual sites.
